Democrats Across Michigan and the Country Rally Around Abdul El-Sayed and Democratic Ticket

DETROIT — Today, Democrats across Michigan and the country reiterated that the Democratic Party is unified behind and ready to elect Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate.

See below for key statements from elected officials, candidates, and leaders:

U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin:

“Any day of the week, Michiganders care more about the price of gas or groceries than the daily political drama or the last-minute moves by politicians for the TV cameras.

I was knocking doors in Sterling Heights yesterday and to a house, those folks were hyper-focused on how expensive everything in their life seems to be, and they’re desperately worried — often in tears — about the future for th eir kids.

And it is for that reason that I have avoided commenting on the actions of Congresswoman Haley Stevens until now.

But there is simply too much at stake. We have to be focused on the mission at hand. That mission is to put a check on President Trump in the U.S. House and Senate, and do the hard work of saving the middle class.

So anyone who makes an election this important about themselves, and not Michiganders and our democracy, should think hard about whether they are serving the greater good.

People outside of Michigan sometimes have a hard time understanding our politics. And in moments like these, I get it.

But here’s the simple truth: The election on Tuesday is bigger than any one person. It’s about who we are as a country and the values that most represent us.

Michigan elects fighters, and we will elect Abdul El-Sayed on November 3.”

U.S. Senator Gary Peters:

“Colleen and I are extremely disappointed in Haley’s decision. Donald Trump’s corruption and chaos must be checked by a Democratic Senate majority to stop the economic pain crushing Michiganders.

I endorsed Abdul, I’ve campaigned with Abdul and tomorrow we will cast our ballot for Abdul and every Democrat on the ballot.”

Democratic nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson:

“I am proud to be leading a ticket full of Democrats committed to lowering costs, raising wages, and ending corruption. We are unified in our plan to make life better for the people of Michigan and fight for democracy.

And that is in sharp contrast to Republican candidates who support failed economic policies that are driving up costs and driving away jobs. John James voted six times against ending the war in Iran, a war that has pushed gas to nearly $5 a gallon in Michigan. Tariffs that he and Mike Rogers support are costing families $6,400 each year and hurting small businesses in our state.

I’m calling on all Democrats to unite and vote for our slate — Team Democracy — before the polls close on November 3. Together, Winnie Brinks, Abdul El-Sayed, Garlin Gilchrist, Eli Savit, and I will deliver for the people of Michigan.”

Democratic nominee for Secretary of State Garlin Gilchrist:

“Mike Rogers is a rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda, and he would continue to be if he’s elected to the US Senate. Any effort to support him is akin to supporting Donald Trump and hurts the people of Michigan. I look forward to campaigning and voting for Abdul El-Sayed and the entire Democratic ticket.”

Democratic nominee for Attorney General Eli Savit:

“I was proud to vote for my friend Abdul El-Sayed and the entire Democratic ticket. Being part of the most diverse ticket in Michigan’s history is the honor of a lifetime.

This ticket is focused on fighting for Michiganders at a time when folks are struggling with high costs, wondering who will stand up for their rights and values, and looking for leaders ready to take on big corporations on behalf of working families.

These final days are critical, and I’m spending time on the campaign trail getting out the vote alongside my friends Abdul, Jocelyn, Winnie, and Garlin. Let’s show up on or before Tuesday, November 3, and vote for a Michigan that works for and welcomes everyone.”

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell:

“Michiganders are worried about how they are going to pay their mortgage and fill up their gas tanks, and the ability to afford groceries, healthcare, and housing. They want leaders focused on making their lives more affordable. That’s what they’re talking about, not Congresswoman Stevens’ continued efforts to get attention.

If we are going to fight to improve the lives of working men and women in Michigan, we must stay focused on electing Democrats up and down the ballot, and that includes electing Abdul El-Sayed as Michigan’s next Senator.”

Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet:

“Michigan, I am the only House Democrat from our state representing a district won by President Trump. I am voting for @AbdulElSayed, and I encourage you to do the same.

The days leading up to an election are always full of distractions and noise. This cycle has been particularly bitter and hateful. Now is the time to rise above it and consider who will actually fight for you and your family. So before you cast your ballot, ask yourself: which of the candidates for Senate will,

✅End Trump’s tariffs on our allies, raising your costs and killing our jobs

✅Stop the War with Iran

✅Take on the political corruption making  everything worse, and

✅Most importantly, vote with you on a generation-defining Supreme Court Justice

Then, by November 3, cast your ballot for Abdul El-Sayed.”

DNC Chair Ken Martin:

“Haley Stevens’ disappointing decision to endorse Mike Rogers, a Trump ally who would join Republican efforts to sell out working families, is a betrayal of the values of the Democratic Party. At a moment when Democrats are united in fighting for Michigan families and standing up to Trump’s agenda, we reject these efforts to sow division within our party. We will not allow last-minute political stunts to derail our momentum and we will triple down on our efforts to elect Abdul El-Sayed on Tuesday.”

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer:

“This is a despicable betrayal from Rep. Stevens.

Senate Democrats are united in our support for Abdul El-Sayed, because we know he will fight for the economic interests of working families in Michigan, unlike Mike Rogers, who is a tool of Donald Trump and billionaire donors.”

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries:

“Let’s be clear about one thing.

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed will always put the American people first and fight hard to lower the high cost of living.

His election is critical to flipping control of the United States Senate.

Mike Rogers is a partisan hack who represents more of the same MAGA extremism.

Vote Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan!”
