The Blue Book: Democrats Are Poised for Victory

Hello and welcome to The Blue Book, the Michigan Democratic Party’s weekly recap to keep you in the know about Michigan politics. Every week, we’ll bring you the latest in how Democrats are delivering for Michiganders and standing up to Republican extremism in the Great Lakes State.

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  1. WE’D RATHER BE US THAN THEM: Former President Barack Obama joined Michigan’s Democratic ticket for an electric rally in Detroit last week. Meanwhile, Trump is scheduling, then canceling, then rescheduling rallies as Republicans’ re-election chances implode.
  1. GOP’S TIES TO EPSTEIN:  New reporting from American Journal News found that John James has received more than $1.2 million in donations from donors linked to Jeffrey Epstein. Last year, James initially “declined to sign a 2025 discharge petition that would have forced a vote” to make the Epstein files public. ICYMI, much of Michigan’s Republican ticket has ties to protecting pedophiles.
  1. CRYSTAL CLEAR CONTRAST: Jocelyn Benson outlined her plan to tackle the affordability crisis as the next governor of Michigan. Her opponent, John James, only has plans to sell Michiganders out to Trump’s cost-raising agenda of endless wars and tax handouts for billionaires.
  1. AN ILLEGAL, MILLION-DOLLAR HAIL MARY: Upon realizing that raising costs, starting wars, and giving tax handouts to billionaires is not a winning strategy, the Michigan Republican Party is trying to exploit an illegal “path around donor limits” in the last days before the election.
  1. HYPOCRITE HUIZENGA: Republicans are really good at taking credit for the good things Democrats do — or at least trying to. We’ll set the record straight. This week, Rep. Bill Huizenga — who “Republicans are scrambling to save” — campaigned on the re-opening of the Palisades Nuclear Plant. Only, he voted against the legislation that made the re-opening possible. His opponent, state Senator Sean McCann, voted in support of the re-opening.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

“This election is our last, best chance to at least reign in some of the foolishness of this administration. It is the circuit breaker in the system. We gotta flip that circuit breaker.”

– Former President Barack Obama on the midterm election
