LANSING — Last week, corrupt multimillionaire Mike Rogers launched a deceptive ad asking Michiganders why their healthcare is so expensive. Here’s what Rogers conveniently forgot to mention in his video: His disastrous healthcare proposals would spike premiums even higher, force Michiganders to pay new out-of-pocket costs, and lead to more preventable deaths:
- Higher premiums and limited coverage for pre-existing conditions: Rogers has proposed “recreating a form of high-risk insurance pools,” which would “double” premiums and provide “inadequate coverage or no coverage at all” for patients with pre-existing conditions.
- New out-of-pocket costs and more preventable deaths: Rogers has proposed “ending no-cost preventive care for health insurance plans,” which would force Michiganders to pay new out-of-pocket costs for basic services like annual physicals and cancer screenings. Experts warn this would cause patients to “skip preventive care because of costs,” allowing undiagnosed chronic diseases to “spiral out of control” and resulting in “more preventable deaths.”
- Higher prescription drug costs: Rogers opposes Medicare drug price negotiation and voted against drug reimportation from Canada—all while receiving more than $1 million in campaign and PAC contributions from Big Pharma and the health products industry.
- Gutting Medicaid and spiking premiums: Rogers voted 14 times to weaken Medicaid in Congress and supports Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which cut $1 trillion from Medicaid, kicks 260,000 Michiganders off their health insurance, and doubled premiums for hundreds of thousands more—all to fund tax breaks for multimillionaires like himself.
