LANSING — Today, corrupt multi-millionaire Mike Rogers posted a video asking Michiganders “why prescription drugs cost so much more in Michigan than they do in Canada.” The answer lies within: Mike Rogers helped create this problem by voting to block lower prescription drug costs while Big Pharma bankrolled his campaigns:
- In Congress, Rogers voted against a bill that would have allowed reimportation of prescription drugs from foreign countries like Canada—effectively blocking lower costs for Americans—and “repeated industry talking points” to oppose such efforts, warning “unmonitored, reimported prescription drugs can and have killed American citizens.”
- Rogers has voted repeatedly against allowing Medicare to negotiate lower costs for prescription drugs, something he has said he is “passionately against” and has derided as “sugar high politics.”
- While Rogers voted to oppose efforts to lower prescription drug costs, he was being “bankrolled” by Big Pharma, receiving more than $1 million in contributions to his campaigns and his political action committee from the pharmaceutical and health products industry since 1999.
- Rogers has pledged to be a rubber stamp for Trump, whose administration announced yesterday its plans to “end a subsidy program that helped hold down premiums for Medicare drug plans,” which would leave “many seniors facing higher rates for their prescription coverage next year.”
“Mike Rogers is literally the problem: He was Big Pharma’s ‘champion’ in Congress and consistently voted to deliver higher prescription drug costs for Michiganders—a fact that Rogers is now trying to hide because he knows his record is toxic,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Joey Hannum. “Rogers is a corrupt politician who has shamelessly served Big Pharma and corporate special interests his entire career, and he would continue to sell out Michiganders for whoever writes him the biggest check if he was in the U.S. Senate.”
