After spending months failing to deliver a budget, Michigan House Republicans passed a budget that fails to support Michigan workers, schools, and economy
LANSING — Months after Governor Whitmer and Michigan Senate Democrats introduced their budgets, Michigan House Republicans finally brought their own budget to the floor in the state House. Despite Michigan Dems passing a budget on time in the last two years, under Republican leadership, the state House failed to meet the deadline, is bringing the state dangerously close to a shutdown, and is causing chaos in schools as they began their semester with uncertainty.
“House Republicans have failed to do their jobs and blew past the budget deadline so they could pass cuts to essential programs like free school meals, job training programs, and funding for state police,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel. “They brought the process to a screeching halt, and now, they’re pushing a budget that will raise costs for Michiganders.
“Just like their federal counterparts, state House Republicans are abandoning working Michigan families and raising prices on everything. Michigan Democrats will fight to protect vulnerable Michiganders from these extremist attacks on them and their families.”
