NEW: Mike Rogers Received FL Traffic Citation the Same Month He Told Reporters He Was Living in Michigan

New public records shows Rogers deceived reporters in 2024 when questions first arose about his Florida residency

LANSING — Two years ago today, Michigan Advance first raised questions about multi-millionaire Mike Rogers’ out-of-state residency and his Cape Coral mansion. His campaign responded by claiming he was no longer living in Florida. However, new public records show that Rogers was cited for breaking a traffic law in Florida the same month his campaign claimed he was living in Michigan.

According to new public records, Rogers received a ticket in Lee County, FL on January 9, 2024, for a traffic violation while driving a car still registered to his Cape Coral mansion. The ticket contradicts what Rogers’ campaign told the Michigan Advance three weeks later, when they claimed Rogers was living in Michigan and “declined to comment further despite repeated requests.”

In response, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel released the following statement:

“Mike Rogers has only ever been out for himself. He abandoned Michigan to walk through the revolving door a decade ago, cashing in to buy a multimillion dollar mansion in Florida – and he only came back to grab a Senate seat so he could keep stacking the deck in favor of millionaires like himself. Rogers is completely out of touch with our state, and working families can’t trust him to fight for them in the Senate.”

BACKGROUND: Mike Rogers moved to Florida after his “explosion of immense wealth” and bought a multimillion-dollar mansion. He only came back to Michigan to run for Senate, raising repeated questions about his residency. He was then caught lying about where he lived, raising concerns he may have violated a voter registration law he helped pass.

The public records showing Mike Rogers misled reporters about his Florida residency follow a new report this week from the Detroit Metro Times, which reveals that Rogers has “resum[ed] campaign activity from his Cape Coral home,” took his Florida mansion off the market, and said he would rather be “on the beach in Florida” than in Michigan.
