DETROIT — Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel released the following statement in response to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson becoming Michigan’s Governor-elect: 

“Congratulations to our next Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Jocelyn Benson and Winnie Brinks! As our current Secretary of State and Senate Majority Leader, they have proven to lead with purpose, courage, and empathy, and I’m certain they are the best team to lead our state.

“Governor-elect Benson and Lieutenant Governor-elect Brinks ran a campaign for and about Michiganders, with a simple vision: in Michigan, every family should have the chance to thrive. Michiganders heard that message, and today they responded with resounding support.

“Their win is the first step toward a Michigan with lower costs and higher wages, where all students can access a quality education and all families can afford to put food on their tables and a roof over their heads. We are proud to have Governor-elect Benson and Lieutenant Governor-elect Brinks leading our state forward.”
