LANSING — On this week’s MIRS Monday Podcast, Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou called out John James’ running mate, pedophile protector Jay DeBoyer, for refusing to open an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s connections to a school in Michigan, even as horrifying details have come to light on years of abuse that took place in northern Michigan where Epstein and other pedophiles preyed on students.

Rep. Tsernoglou on her request to DeBoyer to open an investigation: 

“Chair DeBoyer initially acknowledged that he received our request, after that however, he took a very long time to respond. Did not really communicate an interest in taking it up. And then, eventually did just deny the request and refused to have any Oversight hearings on it. He was not one of the few Republicans who signed our resolution for a special investigation outside of the Oversight Committee.”

Here’s background on Pedophile Protector DeBoyer: 

• DeBoyer declined to open an investigation into Epstein and other pedophiles at a school in northern Michigan, and then DeBoyer and Matt Hall stripped Rep. Tserneglou of her committee seat. 

• Since DeBoyer declined to open an investigation, horrifying details have come to light on years of abuse that took place in northern Michigan where Epstein and other pedophiles preyed on students.

• DeBoyer, who has regularly used his position as Chair of the House Oversight Committee to pursue his own far-right agenda and investigations, was asked at an event in Macomb County last week about why he refused to open an Epstein inquiry after State Rep. Tserneglou requested one. DeBoyer said that it was just “political gotcha” and doubled down on not opening an investigation. 

“John James’ running mate protects pedophiles like Jeffrey Epstein rather than fight for Michigan families,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “Jay DeBoyer has used the Oversight Committee to pursue his own partisan political agenda—but not investigate Epstein. John James and Jay DeBoyer put pedophiles first and families who are struggling from Donald Trump’s disastrous policies last.”
