LANSING — In response to two-time statewide loser John James voting against a War Powers Resolution to rein in Donald Trump’s reckless and price-hiking Iran War, Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman released the following statement: 

“John James has already lined up in support of Donald Trump’s harmful agenda, and with his vote today, James made clear his support for Trump’s reckless Iran War that has jacked up prices and squeezed Michigan families. In April, while defending Trump’s war, James falsely claimed that Republicans are ‘keeping prices low’ — but gas prices have reached record highs and Michiganders are paying more across the board. John James is too extreme for Michigan and families can’t afford Trump and James’ harmful policies.”

Background:

• In an April interview with Fox News, when pressed on rising gas prices, James said that “President Trump’s on the right track, and we need to make sure we can support him.” James also said that the “Republican majority in the House and the Senate and with the White House, we are keeping prices low.” 

• John James voted to protect Trump’s cost-raising tariffs, and last year, James voted for Trump’s price-hiking tax law that cut Medicaid and failed to extend the ACA tax credits. James also voted against a bipartisan bill that would’ve extended the ACA tax credits.

• While James defends Trump’s war, the entire Republican field for governor have also been jumping over themselves to support Trump’s costly agenda.
