LANSING — Trump-endorsed candidate for governor John James stormed out of the post-debate spin room at WDIV in Detroit last night, with MIRS reporting that James took questions from three reporters before “abruptly leaving” as he was questioned over his relationship with Donald Trump.
As he was leaving, MIRS asked James three times about his multi-million dollar mansion in Grand Rapids, which James purchased after he entered Congress and enriched himself through stock trades. MIRS reports that James didn’t answer the questions.
The Michigan Chronicle posted a video of James’ post-debate scrum, with James saying the media “are obsessed with Trump” and “y’all are focusing on some dude in Washington D.C. who’s going to be gone in two years.” MIRS reported that “much of James’ post-debate exchange centered again on Trump.”
James has been a loyal supporter of Trump, including proudly touting his endorsement, voting in support of Trump’s policies in Congress, and standing alongside Trump during events in Michigan. As Michiganders pay more because of Trump and James’ policies, The Detroit News recently reported that James had scrubbed his website and social media of some of his support for Trump.
“John James is in utter meltdown and unable to answer questions on his support and votes for Donald Trump’s disastrous policies,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “As he tries to distance himself from Trump—or dodge questions entirely—the facts remain that James voted six times in support of the Iran War, he voted three times to raise healthcare costs, and he voted for Trump’s tariffs on Canada. Michiganders are paying more for everything because of John James and Donald Trump.”
