Asked about his failure to prosecute cases involving sexual assault, child exploitation, and domestic violence, Doug Lloyd said “When they speak about these particular cases, it makes me laugh”
LANSING — Republican candidate for Attorney General Doug Lloyd proved he is unfit to be Michigan’s next AG during a debate on WDIV’s Flashpoint this morning. Lloyd callously dismissed his failure to prosecute in several sex-crime cases, obfuscated about whether he’d protect Michiganders from Trump’s attacks, and failed to provide any plans to help struggling Michiganders.
Lloyd was asked about the multiple instances in which he dismissed or reduced cases involving sexual assault, child exploitation, and domestic violence. Lloyd responded that “When they speak about these particular cases, it makes me laugh.” The cases in which Lloyd dismissed or reduced charges included the accused sex-trafficker and associate of Larry Nassar, John Geddert, who Lloyd declined to prosecute in 2013 and again in 2018.
When asked about whether he would sue President Trump if elected, Lloyd ignored the harm already done by the Trump administration, claiming that he would sue the President “if he was doing something that goes against the people of the state of Michigan.” However, Lloyd has shown that he would be a rubber-stamp for Trump, even when he causes harm to Michiganders. Lloyd said that his “Day One” priority as Attorney General would be reexamining Michigan’s participation in “like fifty” lawsuits against the Trump administration. So far, these lawsuits have recovered $3.5 billion in federal funding for Michigan communities.
While Michiganders struggle to afford gas and groceries, Lloyd failed to describe any concrete measures he would take as AG to protect Michigan’s municipalities, ratepayers, or natural resources from rising costs and corporate misdeeds.
“Letting off rapists and child predators is no laughing matter. This debate made it clear that Doug Lloyd won’t keep Michiganders safe. Whether the threat comes from predators, corporations, criminals, or Donald Trump’s illegal policies, Lloyd won’t stand up for us,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel. “Doug Lloyd is wholly unfit for the office he seeks, and the choice this November couldn’t be clearer.”
