LANSING — In response to State Rep. Ranjeev Puri being elected the next Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel released the following statement:
“Congratulations to our next Speaker of the House, Ranjeev Puri!
“Ranjeev has admirably led the House Democratic Caucus over the past two years, and under his leadership, Democrats flipped 11 House seats and have the largest House majority since the 1970’s. After two years of dysfunction in the House because of Matt Hall, Speaker Puri will go to work immediately on January 1 to deliver transformational legislation that lowers costs and makes government work for Michiganders.
“I’d like to congratulate the entire incoming House Democratic leadership team, including State Rep. Laurie Pohutsky on her election as Speaker Pro Tem, State Rep. John Fitzgerald on his election as Majority Floor Leader, State Rep. Jennifer Conlin on her election as Majority Whip, and State Rep. Stephanie Young on her election as Caucus Chair. This is a dream team of legislators who will fight tirelessly for the people of Michigan.”
