As Federal Government Shuts Down, Where Is John James?

Have you seen John James?

LANSING — As the federal government shuts down today because of D.C. Republicans and the health care crisis that they’ve created, Rep. John James is notably missing from doing his job and seemingly nowhere to be seen.

James and Republican leadership have kept the House on vacation this week and refused to work across the aisle to avoid a shutdown, while the vast majority of the 531,000 Michiganders who rely on the Affordable Care Act marketplace will likely see their health care premiums more than double starting in January.

James hasn’t had a public event since last Monday, where his campaign kept reporters out of an event in Kent County and then “didn’t directly respond to a series of questions” from The Detroit News about the comments he made saying he was “screwed” in 2020.

“With the federal government shut down, where is John James and why isn’t he showing up to work?” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “James would rather cause a government shutdown than address the health care crisis that Republicans have created. He may not show up for work this week, but Michiganders will make sure that John James has a lot more free time on his hands come 2027.”
