LANSING — When recently asked on Fox2 who won the 2020 presidential election, Republican SOS candidate Anthony Forlini said “I can’t answer that.”

LANGTON: “Did President Biden really beat President Trump?” 

FORLINI: “I can’t answer that… Everyone wants to trip up people on that whole question. That was six years ago. I wasn’t even clerk then… How come they’re not talking about Kennedy versus Nixon? Who won that? People say it was Nixon. You can’t keep talking about it. Today is today.” [Detroit Talk City, 8/26/26]

Forlini has a history of election denialism, signaling that he will use the Secretary of State’s office — tasked with the incredible responsibility of administering elections — to reinforce Trump’s election lies and cause chaos. 

The Gander recently detailed how “Forlini’s extremist tendencies could harm future Michigan elections” including his belief that the Trump administration should be involved in Michigan’s elections and his history of “promoting debunked conspiracy theories.”

Forlini went so far as to hire a prominent election denier with ties to the Proud Boys, Genevieve Peters, as a trainer in the Macomb County Clerk’s office. Peters participated in the January 6th riots, of which she said “When you don’t give us a pathway, you leave us no out, no way but to show up at your doorstep.” 

In response Forlini’s concerning record, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel released the following statement: 

“Every candidate who swears an oath to the Michigan Constitution has a basic responsibility to defend our elections from interference by any politician from either party. Anthony Forlini has failed that test. Candidates who cannot recognize reality and admit that Trump lost in 2020 are too extreme and chaotic for Michigan.”
