Happy Friday to all who celebrate, especially those who have pointed out that “Republicans don’t have candidates capable of upending a slate of extremely well-funded incumbents.”. Here’s what the gubernatorial ones “barely making a ripple” got up to this week:
Rabid In-Fighting Continues
Feeling the heat, Rinke threw a few punches at his campaign kickoff that took place yesterday, sprinkling some additional mess on top of what has already been a messy sandwich of a primary with all the fixins’. Rather than taking the opportunity to give Michiganders in attendance concrete reasons as to why they should prefer him as the Republican nominee, he spent his time tearing down his opponents instead, calling James Craig a “lifelong bureaucrat” and Garrett Soldano an unqualified chiropractor. Yikes!
Dixon and Soldano March for Giving Michigan the Most Extreme Abortion Ban in the Country
This week, Tudor Dixon and Garrett Soldano attended the March for Life in Lansing. MDP has spent all week highlighting their disastrous and extreme anti-choice views, along with James Craig and Kevin Rinke. All four candidates know that Michiganders want to maintain access to reproductive health care, all four are running to unilaterally impose their wrong-for-Michigan agenda instead by supporting a dormant abortion ban from 1931 that anti-choice advocates have touted as the most restrictive in the country.
Dixon Was the Candidate That Cried Porn
…we got nothing here. And won’t be requesting additional context for obvious reasons. During a national cable hit this week, Tudor Dixon – known manufacturer of conspiracy theories – said she’s seeing “books in the classroom that are pornographic.” Ma’am, that’s a chapter on anatomy, and this is 9th grade bio.
If she was really concerned with protecting kids in schools, it begs the question on why she’s been so silent and has refused to rebuke Lee Chatfield.
Snake Oil Salesman Garrett Soldano Becomes the First Republican to Submit Signatures to Appear on the Primary Ballot
Locked in a bitter primary that features MIGOP-insider favorite James Craig and self-funding millionaire Kevin Rinke, we suppose congratulations are in order for Garrett Soldano, who this week managed to become the first candidate to submit signatures to qualify for the ballot in August. A testament to the self-proclaimed “grassroots army” he’s harnessed by catering to election conspiracy theorists no matter how extreme their lies and demands have become, Soldano’s campaign development all but ensures the gubernatorial field remains crowded and divisive for many months to come.
Soldano has come a long way from his days hawking miracle juice supplements he claimed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic would turn consumers’ bodies into “an environment of greatness and you’ll dominate any virus,” but that doesn’t mean they’ll ever be fully behind him.
Excerpt from The Detroit News: “The Michigan Democratic Party has repeatedly labeled Soldano a ‘snake oil salesman,’ referring to comments he’s previously made about a nutrition supplement called Juice Plus+. […] On Wednesday, Soldano said his past comments about the supplement were focused on people being healthier and stronger to give themselves a better chance of dealing with a virus. ‘The only snake oil that I’m selling is called freedom,’ he said.”
Freedom+, for the low low price of 12 installments of $17.76 if you act right now. But wait, there’s more.
