Anti-Choice Watch List: Michigan Women and Families Can’t Count on Garrett Soldano to Preserve Their Access to Reproductive Healthcare

This Saturday, January 22, marks the 49th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that assured the right to choose for tens of millions of women across the country. As the Supreme Court looks poised to dismantle Roe v. Wade, governors will be the last line of defense against dangerous abortion bans for the first time in nearly 50 years.

This week, MDP will be highlighting what Michiganders would face under the extreme GOP candidates running for governor.

Extremist Garrett Soldano has already pledged to force a draconian agenda on Michigan women and families, criticizing Governor Whitmer’s call to repeal Michigan’s extreme 1931 abortion ban, calling himself “unapologetically pro-life,” and suggesting that fake crisis pregnancy centers that use manipulative tactics to push an anti-choice agenda should receive taxpayer funding.

Soldano has yet to answer whether he supports allowing Michigan’s currently dormant 1931 abortion ban on the books, and though he’s made his dangerous anti-choice agenda clear, Michiganders deserve to know whether he supports the complete ban on abortion that criminalizes doctors.

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“Garrett Soldano has made clear that he is seeking to use the full weight of the governor’s office to force his dangerous agenda into exam rooms across Michigan. Meanwhile, Governor Whitmer has remained on the frontlines of the fight to protect reproductive rights by vetoing anti-choice provisions and calling on the legislature to do the right thing and repeal this backwards law.”
