Price Hike Mike’s Canada Trade Threats Could Raise Michigan Gas Prices

LANSING — As multi-millionaire Florida resident Mike Rogers continues to face blowback for supporting his billionaire Moroun family donors’ corrupt scheme to block the Gordie Howe Bridge, FOX 17 West Michigan reports that the escalating Rogers-backed trade war with Canada could force Michigan drivers to pay higher gas prices at the pump.

With the U.S. receiving 43 million barrels of oil from Canada every week, Patrick De Haan at GasBuddy warns: “If something happens or threatens the supply of Canadian oil, Michigan, along with our neighbors, would be profoundly impacted.”

“Mike Rogers is cheerleading Trump’s reckless tariffs that have spiked costs, destroyed manufacturing jobs, and pushed Michigan’s top trading partner to embrace Chinese automakers—and now his price-hiking agenda could force Michiganders to pay more at the gas pump,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Joey Hannum. “Price Hike Mike only cares about helping himself and his wealthy donors, not Michigan families.”

  • “If something happens or threatens the supply of Canadian oil, Michigan, along with our neighbors, would be profoundly impacted,” Patrick De Haan with GasBuddy said.
  • De Haan says there’s no way the U.S. would be able to produce enough gasoline without Canada’s crude oil. As it stands, the U.S. gets 43 million barrels of oil from Canada every week. According to De Haan, the Enbridge pipeline is basically the exclusive supplier of oil to major refineries in Chicago, Detroit, Toledo, and surrounding states. A break from that supply would be costly for U.S. consumers, especially Michigan drivers
  • “Without this Canadian oil, since the 1960s, refineries wouldn’t have anything to refine. So if this suddenly changes, there’s no infrastructure designed in place for any sort of remedy, because this has never been thought possible before,” De Haan said.
