Convention

General Information

  • Volunteers are needed to help with the convention! We have a variety of available volunteer roles on both Saturday and Sunday. Sign up to volunteer with this form.
  • MDP staff will be hosting informational sessions the week of convention to review the schedule, check-in process, voting system, and other event details. If you’re new to attending convention or want a refresher, this is a good opportunity to prepare before the event:
  • Attendees are expected to abide by venue policies, as outlined on the Huntington Place website.
    • This includes that weapons of any kind are prohibited onsite. Attendees must pass through security screening to access the event.
  • Vendor tables are available for the convention. Please contact partyaffairs@michigandems.com for details on these and other sponsorship opportunities.
  • While you’re in Detroit, join us on Saturday, April 18 for the MDP Legacy Dinner.

Accessibility

  • For credentialing, there will be a seated accessible check-in area where attendees who need this accommodation will be able to be credentialed. 
  • The general session on Sunday will have ASL interpretation as well as closed captioning. 
  • The printed schedule onsite will be available in braille and can be requested at the information table at the main entrance. 
  • A limited number of motorized scooters may be available based on supply. These must be requested in advance by emailing partyaffairs@michigandems.com. Requests made after Thursday, April 9 may not be able to be accommodated. 
  • There are complementary manual wheelchairs available at Huntington Place that can be checked out from the venue’s information desk.
  • A quiet room will be available onsite for prayer, meditation, and as a quiet space for those with sensory needs. The room number and location will be shared in advance of 4/19.
  • If additional accommodations are needed, please reach out to partyaffairs@michigandems.com with your request.  

Traveling to Convention

  • Onsite parking is available for $25.00/day/car for the Rooftop parking (625 W Congress) and Washington Garage (1 Washington Blvd). Metered street parking in Detroit is free on Sundays.

    • State Supreme Court (2 candidates)
    • State Board of Education (2 candidates)
    • Michigan State University Board of Trustees (2 candidates)
    • Wayne State University Board of Governors (2 candidates)
    • University of Michigan Board of Regents (2 candidates)

Schedule

  • Credentialing opens on Saturday, April 18, 2026 and closes at the start of the Legacy Dinner, at approximately 6:00 PM. Credentialing will resume on Sunday, April 19, 2026: Resumes at 7:00 AM, and closes at 2:00 PM.
  • Sunday, April 19:
    • 7:00 AM: Credentialing Opens
    • 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Constituency Caucus Meetings (round 1)
    • 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Constituency Caucus Meetings (round 2)
    • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch Break
    • 1:00 PM: Candidate petition signatures must be submitted
    • 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Afternoon Congressional District Caucus Meetings
    • 2:00 PM: Credentialing closes
    • 3:00 PM – Adjournment (scheduled by 6:00 PM): Convention Business
  • The Constituency Caucus meeting schedule and Congressional District Meeting details will be posted the week of April 6. 

Members

  • March 20 was the membership deadline to be eligible to vote at the 2026 State Endorsement Convention.
    • [Note: this deadline does not apply to Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials, or Democratic nominees to partisan office, per MDP Rule 3.2.2.]. 
    • To confirm your MDP membership, please complete the Membership Verification Form.
    • Members with questions about their membership status can attend one of the upcoming open office hours with our the MDP Membership Director. Drop in any time during this window to ask any membership-related questions: ask any membership-related questions:

      • Wednesday, April 15, from 7pm to 10pm: Zoom link
  • No advanced pre-registration is required to attend the convention. 
  • Voting on the Convention floor is most commonly by electronic ballot using the electronic voting system Election Buddy, but can in some cases be by voice vote or unanimous consent. Only in-person voting is permitted, using a personal device or tablets provided onsite.
    • Electronic voting onsite will utilize the Election Buddy system, accessed via email. No separate app must be downloaded, and tablets will be available onsite for attendees who are not able to utilize a personal device. There is complementary guest wifi onsite.
