With John James in Hiding, Out-of-State Billionaire Bails Him Out on the Airwaves

Out-of-State Billionaire with Far Right Anti-Michigan Agenda Funneling Over One Million Dollars to Benefit James

It’s Been 280 Days Since James Has Done a MI TV Interview, 173 Days Since He Answered Questions From MI Print Media, 85 Days Since He Was at a Public Event

As failed Senate candidate John James remains in hiding from Michigan press and voters, a super PAC almost single-handedly funded by an out-of-state billionaire with anti-Michigan values is propping him up by flooding the airwaves. The new ad buy, bankrolled by GOP mega donor Dick Uihlein, comes as both Uihlein and John James were together in Florida at a Trump Victory donor retreat just four days ago.

The billionaire behind the super PAC has a history of backing candidates who “support the Trump agenda, sometimes veering even further to the right” – including John James who has said he supports Trump “2,000%.” Uihlein and his PAC support an extreme far-right agenda that would be bad for Michigan, including abolishing the Department of Education, repealing the Affordable Care Act that protects 1.7 million Michiganders with pre-existing conditions, and undermining Michigan workers.

“John James continues to hide from Michiganders and instead is currying favor with right-wing billionaire donors at out-of-state events,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “As James promises his “2,000%” support for Trump and to repeal health care for the 1.7 million Michanganders with pre-existing conditions, it’s no surprise why he’s Dick Uihlein and the DeVos family’s handpicked candidate.”

Dick Uihlein has already spent nearly $1 million on TV and digital ads attacking Senator Peters and maxed out in contributions to James’ campaign this cycle. In 2018 midterm elections, he spent $37.7 million, contributing $200,000 to James’ super PAC. Uihlein was accused of trying to “buy” a Senate seat in Wisconsin after he spent well over $20 million on a single race. Despite the spending, Uihlein had a “staggering losing streak.”
