What You’ll Hear at GOP Convention: Tudor Dixon’s Wrong-for-Michigan Agenda Would Dismantle Public Education, Hurting Michigan Students, Parents, and Educators

Ahead of this weekend’s Michigan Republican Party convention, which is all but guaranteed to feature fierce intraparty battles over which candidates should be put on the ballot, the Michigan Democratic Party is holding Tudor Dixon accountable for her extreme and harmful policies.

For proof that DeVos sellout and special interest candidate Tudor Dixon intends to shortchange our students, parents, and teachers, look no further than her wrong-for-Michigan agenda that seeks to decimate public education as we know it.

Dixon backed a plan to cut public education funding by up to $500 million annually and sell public schools for parts, while diverting resources into private schools-turned corporate tax havens

In step with Betsy DeVos, who said abolishing the Department of Education should be a pillar of the GOP platform, Dixon wants to kneecap public education by rewriting our state’s constitution to allow public funding to be siphoned to private schools and exploring the idea of  eliminating Michigan’s Department of Education.

These drastic changes without alternatives and unsustainable cuts come on top of the $3.5 billion she has vowed to indiscriminately slash from the School Aid Fund.

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“This weekend at the MIGOP’s nominating convention, expect Tudor Dixon to once again carry the DeVos torch by touting her disastrous, unconstitutional agenda to upend our public schools and make it harder for Michigan to adequately prepare future generations of our workforce. Our students, parents, and educators deserve real leadership, not an extremist that will pawn off their hard-earned tax dollars to the highest unaccountable bidder.”
