The Michigan Republican Party convention has already been rife with drama before it kicks off, and this week, the Michigan Democratic Party will continue to hold Tudor Dixon accountable for her extreme and harmful policies.
A major pillar of DeVos sellout Tudor Dixon’s wrong-for-Michigan agenda is her crusade to revert Michigan back to a state that denies access to reproductive freedom for millions of women and families – and even imposes excessively cruel outcomes on child victims of sexual assault.
- Dixon unequivocally supports a disastrous abortion ban from 1931 that criminalizes abortion, makes felons out of reproductive health care providers and provides no exceptions for rape or incest.
- Dixon has pledged to support new legislation on top of the “good” 1931 ban that reflects her opposition to exceptions for the health of the mother as well.
- Dixon recently stated that incest and rape resulting in the pregnancy of a child was a “perfect example” of why abortion should be banned. When given the opportunity to clarify, she doubled down saying, “I’m not hiding from it.”
- Dixon made the “outlandish” claim that abortion incentivizes sex predators to abuse women and children because they can’t be prosecuted without the evidence of the resulting pregnancy.
- Dixon undermined her own attempt to paper over her callous comments when she again said that child victims of rape should not have access to abortion because there’s “healing through that baby.”
These are only the latest examples of Dixon training her anti-choice agenda on children in particular. She previously got caught claiming that Planned Parenthood has employed a “business model” to “introduce sex” to “7th graders” so they can profit off of “plenty of abortions in high school” – a baseless claim which she failed to offer any evidence for, just like the rest of the conspiracy theories she’s parroted during her campaign.
For her efforts, Dixon has been endorsed by special interest groups Susan B. Anthony List and Right to Life of Michigan.
MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:
Tudor Dixon’s callous crusade to ban abortion and eliminate exceptions for rape, incest, and the health of the mother even extends to underage victims of sexual assault. Michigan families can’t afford the harm Dixon’s special interest-backed plans would inflict on them.”
