Weekly Roundup: 17 Days Until E-Day — Dems are Turning Out

With just over two weeks until the general election, Michigan Dems are working across the state to elect Dems up and down the ballot

LANSING — This week, Michigan Dems were joined by national Democrats from across the country to talk about what’s at stake this election for our jobs, our families, and our democracy. Today, Vice President Kamala Harris was in Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Oakland County, talking to Michiganders about the issues they care about most.

On the Blue Wall Bus Tour, Governors Whitmer, Shapiro, and Evers highlighted the stakes of this election and the key role our states will play in defining the future of our country. Whether it’s the state House or the White House, we must elect Dems from the bottom to the top of the ballot who will protect our most fundamental freedoms.

With the general election creeping closer, Dems are working every second of every day to deliver Michigan for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz.

Check out the state of the race up and down the ballot below:

Presidential Race:

This week, the presidential race continued to heat up as both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris visited the state to try and win the battleground. Trump returned to Detroit this week, just a week after he insulted the city and its people, to hold a rally in the same spot his supporters tried to undermine the election in 2020:

NBC: How Trump allies stoked election chaos in Detroit in 2020 — and what they’re planning in 2024

  • At 10:04 a.m. the day after the 2020 election, President Donald Trump tweeted he was “leading” in the vote count in several “Democrat run & controlled” states — until, that is, “surprise ballot dumps” took those leads away. The implication that something nefarious was happening was categorically false. But primed by months of Trump’s baseless warnings about massive voter fraud and his false claim hours earlier that he’d won the election, Michigan Republicans answered the call…
  • What followed was chaos. Trump supporters furiously alleged a campaign of fraud when none existed. When officials declared that the room was over capacity and stopped letting Republican and Democratic poll observers in, Trump’s backers felt their fears were validated: They started arguing with police and election officials, banging on windows and chanting “stop the count” outside a room of poll workers tabulating military ballots.

Thankfully, Vice President Kamala Harris stopped in Grand Rapids to offer Michiganders a better vision for our future with her as our president. As a battleground state, Harris knows she can’t take any voter for granted here in Michigan. Time and time again, she has proven that she will show up for Michiganders in a way that Trump never will:

Senate Race:

On Monday night, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and Florida resident Mike Rogers engaged in the last debate of the race for the U.S. Senate. This debate highlighted Rogers’ failure to stand up for Michiganders, their families, and their rights while Slotkin has spent years serving Michigan voters. Rogers can’t even be trusted to actually live in Michigan – he absolutely can’t be trusted to serve as its senator:

Michigan Supreme Court Race:

In a weekly roundup first, we are highlighting an upcoming event as Justice Kyra Harris Bolden and Kimberly Ann Thomas are featured on Spotlight on the News from WXYZ this Sunday. This interview will allow voters to get to know the two women seeking to sit on the highest court in our state. As champions for justice, Harris Bolden and Thomas will talk about the values and backgrounds that have brought them to this moment:

State House Race:

In Macomb County, two Democratic state House members are battling MAGA extremists to keep their seats and continue serving their constituents. With a razor-thin margin in the state House, House districts 58 and 61 are going to be crucial in allowing Michigan Dems to keep delivering for Michiganders. If either of these seats are flipped, MAGA Republicans in the House will try to claw back all of the historic progress that Dems have made in the past two years — and we won’t let it happen without a fight:

  • Chippewa Valley school board member Robert Wojtowicz, a Republican, is running against state Rep. Denise Mentzer, D-Mount Clemens, in the 61st district, which includes Mount Clemens, much of Clinton Township and some of Sterling Heights.
  • Over in the 58th District, Republican Utica City Council member Ron Robinson is trying to oust state Rep. Nate Shannon, D-Sterling Heights. The district includes Utica and some of Sterling Heights, as well as parts of Shelby Township and Warren.

And now it’s time for our tweets of the week:
