Donald Trump failed to contain COVID-19 and now Michiganders are forced to live with the devastating consequences. This week, during the Republican National Convention, the Michigan Democratic Party is highlighting how that failure is creating crises across the state. From schools, to our health care system, to the economy, no part of our state is safe from the fallout from Trump’s chaotic leadership.
Donald Trump’s chaotic leadership and failed COVID-19 response has been devastating for the health of Michiganders as the president sues to strike down the ACA and fails to contain a global pandemic that is disproportionately harming communities of color. If Trump’s lawsuit is successful, 827,000 Michiganders will be stripped of health care, 107,000 more than before the pandemic, “namely because the health crisis is shuttering the jobs and businesses that ordinarily provide insurance coverage.” And Trump’s failed COVID-19 response has devastated Black and Brown Michiganders, accounting for 33% of COVID cases and 40% of deaths despite only accounting for 14% of the population.
“Donald Trump has worked relentlessly to strip health care from Michiganders and has failed leadership devastates the health of our Black and Brown communities,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “His chaotic response to COVID-19 has only furthered the damage. We need leaders in the White House like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and Gary Peters in the Senate, who will work to expand health care and put an end to the chaos Trump has created.”
