Donald Trump failed to contain COVID-19 and now Michiganders are forced to live with the devastating consequences. This week, during the Republican National Convention, the Michigan Democratic Party will be highlighting how that failure is creating crises across the state. From schools, to our health care system, to the economy, no part of our state is safe from the fallout from Trump’s chaotic leadership.
Michigan families have been forced into crisis by Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos’ chaotic leadership on school reopening. As schools face down a global pandemic that killed over 6,000 Michiganders, they have received little guidance or resources from Trump or DeVos, only tweets demanding a reopening and an Education Secretary refusing to take responsibility. As a consequence, Michigan parents are stuck in an impossible, confusing situation, and college students are thrown into limbo. As the crisis continues, Republicans up and down the ballot, including John James, have voiced their support for the administration’s disastrous policies.
“Donald Trump failed to contain COVID-19 and that failure has thrown Michigan schools into chaos,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “Now, six months into the pandemic, he is partnering with Betsy DeVos to force schools open with little guidance or resources. Their callous disregard for the safety of educators and students has created a crisis for Michigan families with potentially devastating consequences. This November, Michigan has a choice between the steady leadership of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris working with Gary Peters in the Senate or the chaos and destruction of Donald Trump, Betsy DeVos and John James.”
