Trump’s Failed COVID-19 Response: Michigan Still Short on Testing

LANSING– A new report highlights Michigan’s need for more COVID-19 testing, even after Donald Trump falsely claimed “anybody” can get tested and promised 27 million tests by the end of March.

The report sheds light on Trump’s broken promise to expand testing as Michigan’s average number of daily tests falls over 9,000 short of the 15,000 recommended to safely reopen the economy. The devastating shortfall in testing comes after Trump sought to cut funding for testing sites and is desperately trying to pass the buck and dodge blame for his erratic COVID-19 response.

“For months Donald Trump played political games with a pandemic and broke promise after promise to Michiganders while he failed to address the COVID-19 crisis with his erratic response,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “Now, Michigan families are paying the devastating price as local leaders fly blind without the testing they need to safely reopen the economy.”
