New data from the White House shows that more than 300,000 Michiganders paid lower health care premiums last year thanks to the American Rescue Plan – and every single Republican in Michigan’s congressional delegation voted against it.
This news comes as Republicans have doubled down on their promise to hike taxes and raise health insurance premiums if they take power in November. Last week, Republican Senator Ron Johnson confirmed that some Republicans still want to repeal the Affordable Care Act. That would mean that 100 million Americans with pre-existing conditions would lose protections, Americans with private insurance would see their premiums skyrocket, and 21 million Americans would lose their insurance.
”The fact that Republicans are pushing an idea that would raise costs for healthcare and eliminate coverage for millions while Democrats fight to lower costs for Michiganders is shameful,” said MDP spokesperson Alyssa Bradley. ”Republicans are spending their time obstructing an agenda that would lower costs for working families in order to help the wealthiest families and largest corporations.”
