LANSING– This week, the Michigan Democratic Party will be releasing The DeVos Diaries, a series on the Trump-DeVos education agenda and its devastating impact on Michigan teachers, students, and public schools. Today, the series will highlight how Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos are putting their anti-immigrant agenda first while denying critical aid to college students.
A recent report revealed that a month after $6.3 billion in aid to college students was passed into law, only 1 in 10 schools that applied for the aid had received the funds. After the month of devastating delays, the Trump-DeVos Department of Education released guidance denying the aid to hundreds of thousands of DREAMers, cutting off the students from help paying for room, board and other necessities in the midst of a global pandemic.
“Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos left Michigan college students without critical aid in the middle of a pandemic while they implemented their hateful agenda,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “This administration has been relentless in their attacks on immigrants, no matter the cost, and Michiganders will hold them accountable for their failure of moral leadership.”
