LANSING — Today, Mike Rogers is paying lip service to Michigan farmers after supporting every disastrous policy that’s pushing their farms towards “the brink of collapse,” including Trump’s Iran war and reckless tariffs that are driving up input costs. In response, Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Joey Hannum released the following statement:
“Mike Rogers has backed every disastrous Trump policy that is spiking costs and driving Michigan farmers to the brink of bankruptcy—from reckless tariffs to the Iran war that Rogers has pledged to let Trump wage indefinitely. Time and again, Price Hike Mike has shown he will always put Trump’s toxic agenda ahead of Michigan farmers.”
Michigan farmers are “reeling” and “losing money on every acre” as the Rogers-backed Iran war spikes the cost of diesel fuel and fertilizer.
- Rogers has “consistently supported” Trump’s Iran war from the very start, calling it “long overdue” and “the right thing to do,” even as costs skyrocketed for Michiganders.
- Rogers has repeatedly dismissed Michiganders’ concerns about skyrocketing fuel prices during the Iran war, saying “We’re gonna be fine, we got plenty of oil” and complaining about people who he said were “screaming and thumping their chest” about rising fuel costs.
- Rogers has repeatedly said he supports Trump continuing the Iran war indefinitely, arguing there “shouldn’t be a date” when the Iran war should definitively end, and saying “I don’t mind giving the president the authority to continue” the Iran war, even as costs skyrocketed for Michigan farmers.
Michigan agriculture leaders are saying farms are “on the brink of collapse, and that is in large part due to the tariffs,” which Rogers still wholeheartedly supports.
- Rogers stands in lockstep with Trump in support of his reckless tariffs, calling them “masterful” and “an absolute win,” even as they raise costs and dry up export markets that Michigan farmers and producers depend on.
- In early August, Rogers told Semafor “I don’t know” in response to questions about how he would vote on Senate-approved measures to condemn Trump’s tariffs, even as they hurt Michigan farmers.
- Rogers defended Trump’s reckless tariffs by promising they would result in “$2,000 dividend checks” for Michiganders while “paying down our national debt,” neither of which has happened.
- Rogers has pledged to rubber stamp Trump’s toxic agenda, including his tariff policies, arguing Michigan needs a senator who will support Trump’s agenda, “not undermine it.”
