LANSING — Despite controlling the White House, the Senate and the House, Trump and Republicans in Congress have decided to shut down the government rather than address the cost-of-living crisis their reckless agenda created. After voting twice in a row to spike health care costs, every Michigan Republican in Congress is now forcing a shutdown while the vast majority of the 531,000 Michiganders on the ACA marketplace will likely see their health care premiums more than double starting in January.
“Michigan Republicans from Tom Barrett to John James to Mike Rogers championed the dangerous health care cuts that started this crisis — and they ultimately bear the responsibility for causing this government shutdown,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel. “This Republican-created crisis will grind critical services to a halt and make health care even more expensive for working families across Michigan.”
“At the end of the day, this Republican budget and shutdown will hurt Michiganders, and we are proud of our Democratic delegation for standing up for our great state. Democrats will continue to fight tooth and nail to protect working families from the destruction this administration and Republicans in Congress seem intent on causing.”
