LANSING — Today, the Michigan Democratic Party released the following statements after Senate Republicans voted against the Right to IVF Act, once again in lockstep with Trump’s attacks on access to reproductive health care across the country, just one week after sinking contraception protections for Americans:
“For the second week in a row, MAGA Republicans in the Senate fell in line with Donald Trump’s extreme, anti-reproductive health agenda, instead of voting in support of families across the country,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Supporting federal IVF protections and the personal freedoms of all parents and families should be a no-brainer regardless of political affiliation. Yet, these extremists in Congress made it clear they will stop at nothing to strip families of their fundamental freedoms.
“Luckily for Michiganders, Democrats are fighting for our families and personal freedoms. Earlier this year, Michigan became a national leader in protecting fertility care thanks to Democrats like Rep. Samantha Steckloff who fearlessly championed a bill that, with Governor Whitmer’s signature, cemented surrogacy and IVF protections in our state.
“We must not forget that MAGA Republicans’ war on families and bodily autonomy won’t stop here. That’s why we must reelect President Biden and Democrats up and down the ballot in November so that they can continue to fight for our families and reproductive freedom.”
“The threats of these extremists in Congress know no bounds,” said Rep. Samantha Steckloff. “As a tireless advocate for IVF, I know firsthand how critical it is that people have the right to decide when and how to grow their family. Countless families rely on IVF and right now MAGA Republicans are standing in their way, denying protections for their path to parenthood. This November, it is more important than ever to elect Democrats up and down the ballot to advance reproductive autonomy and ensure fertility treatments are accessible to all who need them.”
