LANSING — Following the US Supreme Court ruling on FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, the case by extremists attempting to ban access to medication abortion, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes released the following statement:
“While today is a good day for access to essential care and for now, mifepristone remains legal, the threat to the wide spectrum of reproductive care is still very real. Trump and his extreme anti-abortion allies have always had one goal in mind: banning abortion care nationwide — first with Dobbs and now by trying to strip access to this life-saving medication.
“We cannot afford to get complacent — a second Trump presidency will threaten reproductive care for generations to come, enabling extremists to pursue their anti-abortion agenda and place more and more conservative judges throughout the judiciary. Even in states like Michigan with protected abortion access, our reproductive rights could still be restricted if MAGA Republicans are elected in November. We cannot stop fighting.
“Make no mistake, abortion is on the ballot this election. Without strong allies for reproductive freedom in the White House like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, we will never be safe from these attempts to strip us of our fundamental freedoms.”
