STATEMENT: Michigan Dems Chair Condemns Vance Abandoning Michigan Jobs

Chair Barnes calls out Vance for refusing to commit to honor the Biden administration’s funding to save GM’s Lansing Grand River Plant

LANSING — Yesterday, during a campaign stop in Auburn Hills, vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance refused to say whether or not a potential Trump administration would honor the $500 million grant to build EVs at GM’s Lansing Grand River Plant. Without that grant, hundreds of autoworkers could lose their jobs.

“It’s plain and simple, Trump and Vance do not care about the middle class and they do not care about investing in Michigan jobs,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Vance couldn’t even answer a simple question, will you protect autoworkers and create more jobs or not? If they cared about Michiganders, they would promise to keep these high-quality, manufacturing jobs — but they don’t. Let’s not forget, Trump stood in Michigan and promised that not one plant would close under his watch – then, Michiganders watched as GM’s Warren factory shuttered its doors and we lost hundreds of jobs.

“Another Trump presidency would be a disaster for Michigan jobs, while the Biden-Harris administration has led to a manufacturing boom. Vice President Kamala Harris understands how important these jobs are, and we must elect her this fall so that she can continue to invest in our industries and keep our jobs here in Michigan. Michiganders know it, and it’s why they will deliver our state for Harris-Walz this November.”
