LANSING — Tomorrow, House Energy and Commerce Republicans are set to greenlight a budget that will gut Medicaid, which 2.6 million Michiganders rely on. In anticipation of the vote, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel released the following statement calling on Rep. John James to vote against cutting Medicaid:
“Tomorrow, House Republicans are poised to continue down the path of ripping health care away from 700,000 Michiganders, including children, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans.
“Cuts to Medicaid are cruel and unpopular – it’s no wonder why John James is hiding from his constituents and refusing to hold town halls. If James votes to gut affordable health care to fund tax breaks for his ultra-wealthy MAGA buddies, it will hurt Michigan’s most vulnerable and cause major problems for him next November. We’re calling on James to publicly oppose any plans to cut Medicaid and vote against his party’s extreme agenda, which will rip away essential health care from working families, drive up medical costs for Michiganders, and even force rural hospitals to close.”
