STATEMENT: Michigan Dems Chair Calls for State House Republicans to Return Remaining Salaries If They Don’t Return to Session

As Republicans continue to abandon their responsibilities to Michiganders, Michigan Dems demand they return the remainder of their salaries to the taxpayers

LANSING — Last week, Matt Hall and House Republicans walked out of the state House and abandoned their sworn duty to Michiganders. With no sign that they will show up to do their jobs this week either, Michigan Dems are calling for House Republicans to return the remainder of their salaries to the taxpayers. Legislators make $71,685 every year — if these Republicans won’t serve Michiganders, they should return what they owe.

“If they don’t show up for our communities, the least House Republicans could do is return the remainder of their salaries while they refuse to do their jobs,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Right now, Michiganders are footing the bill for them to do nothing — and it’s unacceptable

“Michigan Democrats are working in good faith to help our communities in these last days of the legislative session, but Michigan Republicans clearly can’t be bothered to show up for the taxpayers that pay their salary. It is insulting and expensive, so if they won’t show up, then it’s time they pay up.”
