LANSING — Earlier today, Matt Hall and state House Republicans passed bills that would defund countless critical programs that Michiganders rely on every single day. With its House passage, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel released the following statement:
“Today, Matt Hall and state Republicans voted to functionally shut down our state government and defund public education across the state, without any of the transparency he has been calling for. This sham budget would cut over 90% of the state’s general budget and defund schools, robbing 5 billion dollars from Michigan’s students.
“We should be asking – Matt Hall, why does every single Michigan public school student not deserve to have breakfast and lunch? Why are you risking the safety of children by cutting Child Protective Services? Why are you okay with food prices across the state rising thanks to cutting assistance to farmers?
“This is highway robbery at its finest, and Matt Hall isn’t even trying to hide it anymore. Michigan Republicans would be wise to stop following Hall’s lead — or they will all be out of a job in the next election.”
