LANSING — Today, in response to Donald Trump saying, “there is a lot you can do … in terms of cutting” Social Security and Medicare, the Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes released the following statement:
“It’s unfortunately no surprise that once again, Donald Trump is threatening the lives of millions of Michiganders by promising to try to cut Social Security and Medicare. Trump sold out Michigan’s workers and our middle class for his entire presidency, and if elected, it’s clear he will put these essential programs back on the chopping block.
“MAGA Republicans have a clear agenda if they take power – threaten our freedoms and put billionaires and corporations before our families. Michiganders can’t afford to lose access to these critical programs. It is our job to remind voters that the only way to safeguard Social Security and Medicare is by reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris this November.”
Make no mistake, Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare for Michiganders:
- Trump said he plans to do “a lot … in terms of cutting” to Social Security and Medicare, which would be devastating to the over 2 million Michiganders who rely on them.
- Trump sought to cut Medicare and Social Security programs every year he was in office.
- Trump called for privatizing Social Security, which he called a “Ponzi scheme.”
- Trump and MAGA Republicans’ plan to gut Social Security and Medicare is extremely unpopular with Americans — including Republicans.
