Senate Showdown: Rogers Compares Meijer, Craig, and Pensler to George Santos, Calls Them Out for Running for “All the Wrong Reasons”

LANSING — The claws are coming out in the Michigan GOP Senate Showdown. Mike Rogers didn’t hesitate to say what he really thinks about his opponents out loud (he thinks they’re incompetent and in over their heads). Sandy Pensler claimed the country was in “moral decline” because his opponents are “afraid of losing their jobs.” And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Here’s the latest on this “doozy” of a primary:

  • What do Peter Meijer, James Craig, and Sandy Pensler have in common with George Santos? According to Mike Rogers, they all “run for office for all the wrong reasons” and they “end up looking a lot more like George Santos than any statesman that you’ll see.”
  • Rogers didn’t stop there, alluding that the other candidates were in over their heads, “This isn’t a prize to have, this isn’t something to put on your mantle, this is serious business…”

See for yourself:

Michigan’s Big Show: Rogers: “I think people run for office for all the wrong reasons. Especially the legislative branch… You shouldn’t go there to be famous. And I think what happens when those folks go for the wrong reasons, they end up looking a lot more like George Santos than any statesman that you’ll see.”

WABC Radio: Rogers: “Nobody can walk into the United States Senate other than me, Mike Rogers…”

JR Afternoon: Rogers: “There’s other… candidates in the race for maybe other offices. This is too important…”

Justin Barclay: When talking about the Senate race and his primary opponents, Rogers alluded they were in over their heads: “This isn’t a prize to have, this isn’t something to put on your mantle, this is serious business…”

JR Morning: When asked about the other primary candidates and what makes him stand out, Pensler didn’t hesitate: “…Professional politicians, and this is what’s happening, it’s part of our moral decline, don’t take on the tough issues because they’re afraid of losing their jobs.”

CBS Detroit: Pensler: “And I think we’ve got a lot of career politicians and professional politicians who need the job and haven’t been facing the tough choices. And we’ve got a lot of problems because of that.”
