Rinke’s Used Car Facts: Governor Whitmer Has Been Creating Jobs and Boosting In-State Manufacturing in the Auto Industry Since Taking Office

Since announcing his campaign, out-of-touch millionaire and Toyota car salesman Kevin Rinke has spent over $300,000 on TV as part of his $10 million dollar pledge to buy the governor’s office. Across four ads, Rinke repeatedly ignores reality and Governor Whitmer’s record in a shady attempt to sell his own credentials.

Used Car Fact #2 – Out-of-Touch Millionaire Kevin Rinke Makes Unsubstantiated Claims About Job Creation

The second installment of Rinke’s Used Car Facts concerns one of the out-of-touch millionaire’s ads making the unbacked claims about job creation without offering any specifics about his record or plans.

Since taking office, Whitmer has created 15,000 auto jobs. This includes the 6,500 jobs created as a result of Fiat Chrysler’s 2019 decision to build an auto assembly plant in Detroit – a $4.5 billion investment in the region and the first plant in the city in almost three decades.

Not only has she maintained Michigan’s #1 ranking for automotive manufacturing – but she’s also ensured its continued success. Last year, on top of announcing major multi-million dollar investments in several manufacturing plants across the state, GM chose a plant in Detroit to convert to its first all-electric vehicle assembly line

Michigan is also competitive nationally and was ranked as a top ten state for new business creation, and it’s easy to see why. During the early days of the pandemic, Governor Whitmer negotiated a bipartisan deal that secured over $140 million for restart efforts and personal protective equipment – going to over 14,000 small businesses. She also kept small businesses afloat with her Small Business Survival Grant program that saved over 52,000 jobs statewide.

For those reasons, Michigan’s economy was able to recover quickly. In the second quarter of the year, the state’s economy grew at such a rapid clip that it was the “third highest in the nation and the best in the Midwest.” In July, Michigan ranked #2 for recovering from COVID-19 economic losses.

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“Kevin Rinke’s used car facts can’t pass even the most basic of road tests as he relies on unbacked claims and refuses to offer specifics about his record or plans. By contrast, Governor Whitmer has fought to keep Michigan’s auto industry first, creating jobs and demonstrating to major manufacturers that they should grow even deeper roots in the state. Rinke knows that’s leadership and a track record he can’t compete with.”
