LANSING —The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Lavora Barnes, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party.
“The GOP is acting on their national strategy to change election laws across the country. Michigan just held the most scrutinized election in the history of the state, and by every standard, no fraud or misconduct was found. In spite of this, the MIGOP is bulldozing forward with this ill-conceived ballot initiative that is designed to change the rules unnecessarily and make it harder for people to vote.”
“The MIGOP doesn’t seem to care about the truth and instead of playing by the rules, they’ve made up their own. In the last 10 months they have introduced more than 40 voter suppression bills, held countless hearings, brought conspiracy theory “experts” before the Michigan legislature, questioned the integrity of our Secretary of State and our clerks, and now are launching an outlandish petition drive designed to stop people from voting.”
“We need you to tell your family, friends, neighbors, and even the folks in line at the grocery store that they must decline to sign the petition that would result in direct voter suppression here in Michigan.”
