LANSING — Earlier today, MAGA Matt Hall and his Republican Caucus once again abused their power to attack political enemies and push election conspiracy theories, attempting to hold the Michigan Department of State in contempt instead of actually working to help Michiganders. In response to their latest move, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel released the following statement:
“Right now, we are seeing yet another gross overstep by MAGA Matt Hall’s House Republican caucus as they put their extremist agenda ahead of the well-being of Michiganders. At a moment when Republicans at the federal level are trying to gut Medicaid, it’s deeply concerning that Michigan Republicans are doing absolutely nothing to help Michiganders and are instead wasting time with political attacks.
“This latest move to hold Secretary Benson in contempt has nothing to do with election security, and instead, is about Republicans prioritizing already-debunked conspiracy theories over the safety of Michigan’s elections. It’s an embarrassment, and Michiganders deserve better.”
