RELEASE: GOP Speaker Cheers on Cuts That John James Voted For.

Where Does the Rest of the Republican Primary Stand?

LANSING — Republican House Speaker Matt Hall is now cheering on DC Republicans’ push to cut Medicaid and SNAP benefits in order to give massive tax breaks to billionaires. Congressman John James voted for the cuts in Congress, which will be disastrous for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders and jack up prices for working families.

With James voting for them and Hall gleefully cheering it on, where do the rest of the Republican gubernatorial candidates — Aric Nesbitt, Mike Cox, and Tom Leonard — stand on cuts to Medicaid?

About 2.6 million Michiganders across the state rely on Medicaid — including more than 300,000 people with disabilities and 168,000 seniors. The cuts to Medicaid, along with Republican plans for gutting Social Security and Medicare that James has supported, would have disastrous consequences for Michigan.

“With John James voting for cuts and Matt Hall now cheering them on, Michiganders deserve to know if Republican gubernatorial candidates Aric Nesbitt, Mike Cox, and Tom Leonard also support gutting Medicaid,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “Gutting Medicaid will hurt countless families across the state and jack up prices, all to support tax cuts for billionaires. Will Nesbitt, Cox, and Leonard toe the line on cuts or protect healthcare for Michiganders?”
