Mike Rogers’ Price-Hike Agenda and a series of tone-deaf comments are quickly becoming a liability for his campaign
LANSING — As failed GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers continues pushing a toxic Price-Hike Agenda, his comments mocking Michigan families struggling with higher costs are beginning to haunt him on the campaign trail.
At a campaign event earlier this month, Price Hike Mike was caught “making fun of those who worry about higher prices” caused by the chaotic tariffs he supports and argued that they’re “worth the financial strife being put on the American people. His tone-deaf comments supporting cost of living increases are now “seeping into Michigan’s 2026 Senate race.”

@gandernewsroom on TikTok: “Republican US Senate candidate Mike Rogers laughed off higher prices under Trump’s tariffs. Then, the job numbers came out.”
Rogers has also faced fierce criticism for dismissing the impact of Trump’s chaotic tariffs on Michigan families and businesses as just a “shoe” that will “pinch every once in a while,” and for his support of the toxic GOP tax law that spikes the cost of “everything from electricity, to gas, to groceries.”
“Mike Rogers is a carpet-bagging multi-millionaire who’s focused on cutting taxes for himself instead of lowering costs for Michiganders,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Joey Hannum. “Rogers’ comments clearly show he’s more connected to his fellow Florida mansion-dwellers than he is to working families in Michigan.”

Heartland Signal: Mike Rogers justifies Trump’s tariffs with return of manufacturing jobs, which are decreasing
- […] In audio obtained by Heartland Signal, Rogers argued that Trump’s tariffs are helping jobs come back from overseas, and that is worth the financial strife being put on the American people, even making fun of those who worry about higher prices.
- And when the Democrats start getting at us, oh my gosh, coffee went up. You know, horror,” Rogers mocked.
- […] Rogers did not respond to a request to comment on his belittling of the American economy and the rising costs for consumers associated with Trump’s tariffs. However, he has continuously defended the tariffs in his public appearances, calling them a “masterful” decision by Trump and an “absolute win” during a “Grassroots Army” podcast appearance in April.
- […] “Mike Rogers is campaigning on a toxic agenda that’s draining Michigan families’ bank accounts while devastating the manufacturing jobs he claims to support,” said Hannum. “Instead of mocking families struggling with rising costs, Rogers should explain why he’s pushing policies that are killing good-paying manufacturing jobs.”
The Gander: Trump’s tariffs cost Michigan another 300 manufacturing jobs—and a $50M factory deal
- […] The political debate over Trump’s tariff policies is already seeping into Michigan’s 2026 Senate race.
- Republican candidate Mike Rogers—so far the only GOP contender—has openly dismissed families worried about higher prices. And at a campaign event this month, Rogers argued that tariffs are “worth the financial strife being put on the American people,” even as the US has lost more than 42,000 manufacturing jobs since new tariffs were implemented in April.
- “Mike Rogers’ reckless tariff policies just cost Detroit more than 300 manufacturing jobs and a $50 million investment that was supposed to bring production back from China,” Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel said in a press release sent this week. “While Mike Rogers is out on the campaign trail mocking families worried about higher costs, his failed policies are killing opportunities for Michigan workers to rebuild the state’s manufacturing base.”
Michigan Advance: Michigan Democrats slam Rogers for backing Trump tariff policies
- The Michigan Democratic Party continued to criticize former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-White Lake) on Thursday, blasting the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate over his support for President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.
- […] Hertel criticized Rogers’ remarks in an interview with Politico, where he said “obviously, certainty is always better,” but “[the] shoe is going to pinch every once in a while, and the good news about the White House is when there’s a case that comes up that doesn’t seem fair or rational, we even call, and they’re at least open to a conversation, which is great.”
- Hertel said Rogers’ comment showcased “callous indifference to the real pain Michiganders are experiencing.”
- […] Tariffs would have an impact on UAW workers’ profit sharing, with rising expenses expected to cut into workers’ checks, Dingell said.
MIRS: Democrats Connect Rogers With Cost Of Living Increases
- Michigan Democrats today attempted to link Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike ROGERS to the rising “cost of everything from electricity, to gas, to groceries” through his past support of the One Big Beautiful Bill.
- […] “Mike Rogers’ cost-hike agenda is a direct attack on families like mine,” Perry said. “I can’t even imagine how much worse this will get because of the Medicaid cuts that Mike Rogers supports. While costs keep increasing, I’m terrified about what this means for my family’s financial security.”
