President Biden’s Infrastructure Plan Helps Families and Businesses Get Plugged In, Delivers High-Speed Internet Service to Michigan

Thanks to President Biden and Democrats, Michiganders across the state will have access to affordable, high-speed internet services in every single home and business.

Funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan will help close the digital divide for 14% of Michiganders who currently lack adequate access to affordable, high-speed internet. This $100 million investment will create jobs for the folks who lay the groundwork for fiber optic power lines and level the playing field by prioritizing homes and businesses that  can’t get a signal at all.

We’re thankful to Governor Whitmer who is leading the state to efficiently use these federal dollars as soon as they’re received. This week, the Governor announced an Executive Directive to call for state departments and agencies to begin collaborating with the legislature for a plan to break ground on internet expansion in their communities. With the $100 million from the Biden-Harris administration, Michigan will work to lower internet services, and ensure households and businesses are plugged in.

Read what leaders in the community are saying about the infrastructure plan’s broadband expansion investment:

Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist ll: “Every Michigan home and business needs the access to the infrastructure that makes high-speed internet access possible, and the connection must be affordable and reliable. Governor Whitmer and I will remain laser-focused on ensuring that the federal dollars being made available through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act are spent strategically and efficiently, so that we can take full advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring high-speed internet service to every person, family, and community in our state.  We look forward to partnering with the legislature, local leaders, and all those who are ready to focus on getting Michiganders connected so that we can get this done.”

Rep. Elissa Slotkin: “Expanding broadband has been a top priority for me, and the bipartisan infrastructure deal will *finally* connect our rural communities. Michigan will receive at least $100M for broadband infrastructure & 25% of Michiganders will be eligible for internet affordability assistance.”

Rep Dan Kildee: “Because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Michigan’s infrastructure is getting a much-needed upgrade—from the floppy disk era to the digital age. We’re going to expand high-speed broadband internet to every Michigan family.”
