LANSING, Mich. — A new WDIV poll shows continued support for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s efforts to keep Michiganders safe and save lives throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as voters continue to disapprove of the Trump administration’s failed response to the public health crisis, the Michigan Democratic Party said today.
The new poll shows 61% support among those surveyed for Whitmer’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. By stark contrast, 54% of those surveyed said they disapprove of the Trump administration’s failed response to the pandemic that has resulted in more than 190,000 deaths nationwide.
“With these numbers, it’s no surprise Unlock Michigan has resorted to lying, deceit and hiring criminals to advance their irresponsible, partisan power grab that continues to put the lives of all Michiganders at risk during the ongoing pandemic,” said Lavora Barnes, Michigan Democratic Party Chair. “Unlock Michigan has proven time and again they will lie, cheat and break the law to obtain signatures. This is yet another reason we call on all Michigan voters to refuse to sign this partisan petition cooked up by Mike Shirkey. This poll makes it clear Michigan voters continue to support Gov. Whitmer’s proven ability to keep Michiganders safe and save lives throughout the pandemic.”
