Perry Johnson Used the First Debate of the Republican Gubernatorial Primary to Push His Anti-Abortion Extremism and Backwards Plan to Defund Public Schools and Law Enforcement

Last week in Livingston County, “prolific junk faxer” Perry Johnson once again let Michiganders know he’s “not interested in the same things” as them – such as reproductive freedom and a state that has the resources to function properly.

Johnson explicitly declared that “life begins at conception,” and stood against exceptions for survivors of sexual assault. This is in line with previous comments in which he “declined to rule out banning abortions for survivors of sexual assault” when asked where he stands on protecting reproductive rights in Michigan. He then doubled-down on his anti-choice extremism, even in cases of rape or incest, saying, “Two wrongs don’t make a right. I am pro-life.”

The odd-quality ‘guru’ also cosigned Kevin Rinke’s “piss-poor public policy proposal,” a backwards plan to squeeze billions from public schools, law enforcement, health departments, transportation and infrastructure. Like his fellow out-of-touch millionaire, Johnson also refused to go into detail on which critical services he would cut.

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“Perry Johnson has spent millions pushing his sub-par quality agenda that would take reproductive freedoms away from women and force working families to live in unsafe communities with poor roads and defrauded schools. Michiganders deserve better.”
