On WJR, Constituent Slams John James Over Ethics Violation

James was offered an opportunity to comment on the ethics scandal, but hadn’t responded as of air time

LANSING — Today on WJR Radio’s “JR Afternoon Show” with Ryan Ermanni, Joel Rutherford — an Air Force veteran and constituent of the Tenth Congressional District — outlined why he’s filed a complaint with the House Ethics Committee over John James’ blatant misuse of taxpayer money to help his campaign.

Rutherford: James is “using taxpayer money from those of us that live in the Tenth [Congressional District] to promote him for governor of Michigan. And that’s just not allowed that way. That money is not supposed to be campaigning at an official event like that.”

James has become embroiled by the ethics scandal and is facing bipartisan criticism, with John Truscott, a prominent Michigan Republican, even saying that it was “just beyond stupidity” and that James’ campaign had “basically taken a gun and pointed at their own head with this kind of thing.”

The ethics complaint, filed by Rutherford last Friday with the U.S. House of Representatives’ Ethics Committee, urges an investigation over James blatantly using taxpayer-funded federal government resources to promote his campaign for governor.

WJR offered James an opportunity to comment on the ethics complaint, but he hadn’t responded as of air time. Rutherford said of James not responding, “I really hope that Congressman James comes on your show and explains himself because, you know, constituents can’t get anything from him.”
