O’Malley among GOP candidates who want voters to forget their efforts to overturn election results

Northern Michigan Republican tried to override the will of voters in 2020 and now he wants them to cast a ballot for him

LANSING – “Chances are Rep. Jack O’Malley (R-Lake Ann) has never worked harder in his legislative career.”

That frank assessment came from the Sept. 26 MIRS newsletter about the race for the 103rd House District in northern Michigan.

With dizzying speed, O’Malley is making a mad dash from his anti-choice record, trying to drum up support from voters. He’s also hoping they will forget how hard he worked in 2020 to overturn the results of the presidential election and override the will of the voters.

The Lake Ann Republican was one of 15 GOP state lawmakers to sign on to a legal brief challenging Michigan’s election results to wipe away the results of a free and fair election in Michigan where Joe Biden received 154,000 more votes more votes than Donald Trump.

“Jack O’Malley was willing to toss out the will of millions of voters across Michigan in 2020 and now he wants those same Michiganders to cast a ballot for him? It’s insulting,” said Chris Cracchiolo, chair of the Grand Traverse Democratic Party. “Radical GOP candidates like Jack O’Malley have embraced bogus conspiracy theories, showing their deep-seated disdain for free and fair elections when they don’t like the results. The self-proclaimed ‘Voice of Northern Michigan’ was all-too willing to silence the voices of millions of Michigan voters so he could kiss the ring of Donald Trump and his madcap crew of QAnon crooks. We need the media and the voters to call out O’Malley for his dangerous views and efforts to undermine our democracy.”

O’Malley is facing Traverse City Democrat Betsy Coffia to represent the 103rd House District, which covers Leelanau County as well as parts of Benzie and Grand Traverse counties.
