LANSING — Yesterday, Republican Attorney General candidate Doug Lloyd held a fundraiser with David Kallman, a leader of Michigan’s anti-choice crusade against women. After the fall of Roe vs. Wade, Kallman “fought to allow Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban to take effect,” represented prosecutors “who argued that an injunction blocking Michigan’s dormant 1931 abortion law did not apply to locally elected prosecutors,” and argued that doctors could face prosecution for performing abortions.
Lloyd wrote on social media that he was “honored” to have the Kallmans, who he described as “longtime friends,” host a fundraiser for his campaign. Lloyd bragged that the Kallmans were some of his “earliest supporters.”
The Detroit Metro Times noted that the fundraiser, in tandem with Lloyd’s record, “puts Lloyd’s current position on reproductive rights in sharper focus as he seeks to become the state’s top legal officer.” The Metro Times recently dug into Lloyd’s record and found that several cases under his purview “involving sexual assault, child exploitation, and domestic violence ended with reduced charges, probation instead of jail, or no prosecution at all.”
“Doug Lloyd’s words and record speak for themselves: he is an ally to predators and anti-choice extremists. He cannot be trusted to protect Michiganders,” said Leah Leszczynski, spokesperson for the Michigan Democratic Party.
