According to new footage of Garrett Soldano released by Heartland Signal, the Republican anti-choice extremist wants to go even further than an extreme abortion ban without exceptions and would move to outlaw emergency contraception like Plan B if elected governor.

Of course, this isn’t the snake oil salesman’s first time showing Michigan women and families he will push a dangerous agenda to enact an extreme abortion ban. Soldano has repeatedly touted his “100% unapologetically pro-life” stance and railed against Governor Whitmer’s pledge to use her executive authority to protect the reproductive freedoms of women and families.
He is a proponent of the currently dormant law from 1931 that remains on the books criminalizes abortion, makes felons out of reproductive health care providers, and provides no exceptions for rape or incest. Additionally, he’s pledged to sign new abortion bans into law if elected.
Earlier this year, Soldano stated that women who are raped should not be able to have abortions because “God put them in this moment” and it would make them “heroic.”
MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:
“Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a politician loudly signals the fact that they know nothing about how reproductive health works, yet wants to have absolute legislative authority over them anyway. These radical comments from Garrett Soldano are just the latest in a long string of glaring warning signs for the millions of Michiganders who want their right to choose protected. His rabid anti-choice extremism doesn’t belong anywhere near the governor’s office.”
Transcript:
PERSON: If you were governor, would you ban Plan B?
GARRETT SOLDANO: Like the after morning? After…
PERSON: Yeah.
SOLDANO: If conception happens, you can’t use it.
PERSON: So that would be something you would try to do as governor.
SOLDANO: Yeah if conception happens you can’t– Like, that’s just– That’s my belief. Now if you can prove that conception didn’t happen, you can use it. Fine, it’s like contraception to me. But as soon as that joins, it’s over. That’s DNA man.
