LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement on behalf of MDP Chair Lavora Barnes regarding today’s announcement by the Democratic National Committee that Michigan will host the Democratic presidential debate set for July 30–31, 2019:
“The road to the White House runs through Michigan, and we are pleased that our partners at the Democratic National Committee have decided to hold one of our party’s all-important presidential debates here. The issues we face in Michigan are not confined to our peninsulas. Protecting healthcare, creating good jobs, investing in public education, cleaning up our water, and fighting for hardworking people who want a level playing field are the concerns of all Americans. We believe Michigan is the perfect real-world backdrop for a conversation on how the Democratic Party will work for the people of our country moving forward to solve the critical issues facing us all, including the presidency of Donald Trump.”
